The aptitude tests are administered by MATC. These are not tests of your knowledge of sheet metal work. They are tests of your basic skills and aptitude. The Accuplacer tests will measure four areas: Reading Comprehension, Sentence Skills, Arithmetic, and Elementary Algebra. These tests are not timed. You will be able to take the Accuplacer computerized tests on a “walk-in” basis. You should call 414-297-6105 to hear a recorded message indicating when walk-in testing is available. Cost of the Accuplacer test is $20.00, payable to MATC. You will receive your test scores immediately after taking the test. If you have not passed the required portions of the test (Reading - 66 minimum, Arithmetic - 66 minimum, Elementary Algebra - 33 minimum) you will need to retest in those areas. Sentence Skills testing in not scored by the Sheet Metal JATC. They are for informational purposes only. Retests are $4.00 per individual tests. Upon completion of the test, you must mail or deliver a copy of the test scores to our office.
We strongly recommend that you take the Accuplacer Sample Test available on the MATC website prior to scheduling the actual test. To take an Accuplacer pre-test go to www.matc.edu, then to Prospective Students, then to Apply/Register - *Sample Accuplacer Test*.
The score you receive on the entrance test is an important factor used in determining where you will be placed on the apprenticeship list.
Failing the Test If you do not get the minimum required scores on one or more parts of the test:
a. You must receive tutoring in the portions of the test that you have failed before you can be allowed to retest. b. You only need to retake the portions of the test you failed. c. Retesting can only be scheduled through this office. You cannot schedule your own test. d. There is a 6 month waiting period between retests unless other approval is given by the JATC office.
PASSING THE TEST
Applicants who pass the test will be scheduled to attend an Orientation Session at which time they will be informed of the duties and responsibilities incurred in the apprenticeship program. The Orientation is mandatory to be eligible for the apprenticeship
