To those interested in working as a labor trainee, please read the following information.
- What is a Labor Trainee?
A labor trainee is someone interested in sheet metal that works in the trade prior to an apprenticeship to familiarize him/her with the type of work performed in the industry. During this time the employer is also able to view the potential apprentice and judge his/her work habits.
- What type of work do they perform?
Labor trainees may work in the shop or in the field. They are assigned duties the employer feels they are capable of. They often load and deliver materials, set up scaffolds, and help journeymen and apprentices. They work at heights and outdoors and indoors under varying conditions.
- Rate of Pay
The rate of pay for labor trainees is $22.23/hr.
- What does accepting or not accepting work as a labor trainee do?
Many apprentices work as Labor Trainees prior to becoming an apprentice. It familiarizes them with the work of the trade. However, you do not have to work as a Labor Trainee prior to becoming an apprenticed in the apprenticeship program. Orientation is mandatory to be eligible for the apprenticeship.
